Roundworms: In Australia, there are two species of roundworms that can infest dogs; these are Toxascaris leonina and Toxocara canis, which can spread to humans. The prevention of these intestinal worms is important to protect the health of your dog and your family.
Whipworms: These hardy intestinal parasites, which can survive in the environment for up to five years, are responsible for the most disease. Whipworms live in the cecum and large intestines of dogs, where they cause irritation of the organ lining.
Hookworms: Hookworms are similar to roundworms in that they live in the dog's digestive system. After attaching to the lining of the intestinal wall, they feed on blood, which can cause internal blood loss.
Tapeworms: Tapeworms must first pass through an intermediate host - usually fleas - to infect dogs. Once ingested, they cause itchiness and irritation in your pooch's rear end, which often causes the behaviour known as scooting - where an infected dog will drag their bottom on the ground for relief.
